P. KESAVADEV JPEF YOUNG RESEARCHER AWARD

Dr.Nanditha Arun (Dr.A.Ramachandran’s Hospital, Chennai) bagged the JPEF P.Kesavadev Young Researcher Award for diabetes worth Rs. 1 lakh. Her original research on ’mhealth in diabetes’ won her the award. This award is instituted with an aim to foster diabetes research in India and carries a cash prize of INR 100,000, gold medal, statuette and a travel grant. Dr. Cherian Varghese (Acting Director, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva handed over the award to Dr.Nanditha Arun during the inaugural ceremony of 7th JPEF Two-Day Annual Global Diabetes Convention. From the numerous submissions received, the expert panel consisting of Dr. Ashok Kumar Das (Professor and Head of Endocrinology, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences), Dr. Georgi Abraham (Professor of Medicine, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences) and Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev (Managing Trustee, P.Kesavadev Trust), unanimously selected the best original research.

BEST ORIGINAL RESEARCH

Parameswaran Ramakrishnan, M.Sc, Ph.D. (Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland, OH, USA Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH, USA Case Comprehensive Cancer Center) won first prize for the best original research. His research titled ‘Novel Molecular Target and Therapeutics for Autoimmune Diabetes’ was well appreciated.

Original research titled ‘PREVALENCE OF INSULIN RESISTANCE IN NON-OBESE, EUGLYCEMIC AND NORMOTENSIVE FIRST DEGREE RELATIVES OF OBESE INDIVIDUALS’ bagged the second prize in the best original research category. Dr.Nishanth Dev, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India and Dr.Jhuma Sankar, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India were the researchers.

The authors presented their original research at the Oral Abstract Presentation session on the second day of JPEF 2019 and were awarded cash prizes and certificates.

BEST POSTER AWARD

For the first time in JPEF Annual Convention, Poster presentations of selected original research was introduced. Dr.Sijo Jose (Sree Gokulam Medical College, Trivandrum) won the best poster award for his research titled ‘Prevalence and clinical profile of hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state in diabetic patients visiting emergency room in a tertiary care hospital’.

ORIGINAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ABSTRACTS SELECTED FOR ORAL PRESENTATION

7th JPEF Two-Day Annual Global Diabetes Convention offered a platform for Modern medicine doctors, Dietitians, Researchers and Allied healthcare professionals to present their original scientific research conducted in the field of diabetes.
